Im Joo Hwan, who recently transferred to the PR division of the Defense Media Agency (DEMA) as an IT agent, revealed that he was passed over in the selection process.
Im added, “I wanted to serve as an IT agent to make myself more useful while serving in the army. I signed up after getting the approval of my parents but ended up not making the cut.”
During the interview, Im also shared his thoughts after joining the army. He revealed, “During our boot camp, I remember eating while sitting down in a single file. Even though we were starving, we had to eat slowly and say ‘Thank you for the food. We are grateful to our country and its citizens who have prepared this food, as well as our brothers-in-arms.’ That was when I came to the realization that I was, indeed, a soldier.”

When asked about his favorite meal during boot camp, Im replied, “Once in a while, we would get ice cream for dessert. As I ate the slightly melted ice cream, I read the fine-print ingredient label on the wrapper and thought to myself ‘So that’s the kind of ingredients found in ice cream’ and I found out exactly how much milk and sugar were included in the dessert.”
Im enlisted in the army on May 17, 2011 and served in the administration and education unit in the 23th army division. However, Im later applied as a PR agent in the Defense Media Agency on March 12.
