I have just completed watching the 20 episode (21 in fact) of Tamra the Island and I must say that it is sooooo much better than the truncated 16-episode version.
Truly a beautiful story but destroyed by the cut up version. So you guys who love watching this drama, I would like to encourage you to buy the dvd.
Beleive me. It is worth every $. So many relevant and tender scenes were brutalised by the broadcaster's scissors and it really messed up the flow of this beautiful story.... Such a pity !
Im Ju Hwan had the hardest role to play in this drama because he had to be comical, sad, tearful, happy, serious, fearful, heroic, tender, swordsman. He acted them all so well, yet, sadly, he did not win an award.. sigh.
He entered the scene as a nobleman (Park Kyu) who was exiled to Tamra for alleged sexual harrassment. He was supposed to be a stuck up first class scholar ever conscious of his social standing.
This exile who was in fact a royal secret inspector, fell in love with the silly, giddy headed tomboy who he despised at their first few meetings.
While snooping around to gather evidence of smuggling and theft of the royal tribute contributed by the villagers of the island he had had to deal with the antics of this girl who got him into messy situations ever so often.
His greatest struggle was in fact his head over heart -- keeping up his nobility versus loving a commoner ( which was forbidden in that era). He denied his feelings for her when confronted but his actions showed otherwise.
Even though she broke his heart many a times with her insensitive behaviour and her outward affections for an English castaway (William) yet he saw beauty in the way she loves with sincerity, albeit foolishly.
Although he told himself repeatedly to forget her, he found himself drawn more and more to her during the twist and turn of the drama plot.
Through unforseen circumstances he had to shelter her at his home. At one point he was hoping to make a lady out of her. But Boe Jin's restless spirit and airy fairy desire to sail away with William forced him to let her go.
Her stubborness and immaturity landed her into more trouble until she finally realised that Tamra was where she belonged and that she was in fact in love with Park Kyu.
Watch how this love struck nobleman handled sticky situations at the risk of his dignity and social standing -- all for the love of a simple-minded girl with a foolish heart.
Since she was beyond upgrading he had to come down from his high horse for the love of his life.
Happy watching folks !!!!
