One of the things that I love about Tamra is the simplicity of the story (it’s actually cliche-ic, arrogant-boy-meets-bumbling-girl–yah, I’ve seen that thousands of times) set into a captivating rural area in historic times, with a dash of adventure, mystery and family-drama. The characters are so endearing, from the side characters to the main leads, and more so their dynamics/relationships which takes precedence over the story itself. You mentioned about the drama giving life to seemingly mundane activities, and that I think is another of this drama’s strength. As I’m a fan of movies done in rural areas (e.g. The Vineyard Man), this one’s truly owned me, heart and soul.
The acting was so effective; I really felt the joys and pains of Park Kyu (BTW I’m a member of the team too!), Beojin and the rest of the cast (including William too, although I only felt that on the latter half of the series). Im Ju Hwan and Seo Woo were perfectly cast in their roles–they really nailed it, making their characters more relatable to the viewers. Even the villains too actually–from Seo Rin to the Hanyang people and their king–they are, I can say, very good.
Now that I’ve seen the complete version, I have resolved buy the DVD to fully enjoy the lush cinematography of the places (and faces) involved…yah, I’m almost 2 years behind, but this is one of those things that I would want to watch over and over again.
Some take-aways from this series (both content and structure):
- There is indeed no other place like home
- Nothing beats a first love, but
- A first love will not always be the last, and
- The last and final love will always be the best
- Enthralling instrumentals and some tracks (special mention to HowL’s 2 songs ü)
- Breath-taking landscapes
