Warning: this is the most heartbreaking episode YET. ( ≧Д≦)
Ex-minister Lee tells Joon Soo he had thought of dying countless times, but he told himself to live to see Hyun Suk becoming more successful, and hoped he would climb higher and higher, until he experienced the feeling of falling into hell.
But the person who killed his son, was Joon Soo. And now he’s living happily with a woman that loves him as if nothing happened. He’d never understand the feeling of losing a son.
Joon Soo says he wrote some letters a long time ago and hands them to him, but ex-minister Lee quickly rejects them saying that it’s content will probably just be asking for forgiveness.
"It’s not asking for forgiveness. I know I committed a crime that cannot be forgiven, that’s why I didn’t want to come and give it to you…but I had to."
He picks up the letters and puts it back on his lap and tells him,
"If you do read the letters…I hope you ask me to do what I wrote down and call me. I wrote my number on the letters."
Joon Soo returns to the Dongdaemun rooftop and his mother’s words and images of his family resonate in his mind,
"No matter what happens, family never lets go of each other."
Then he remember’s what Do Hee said,
"I was the one that held onto you and approached you. The person who said let’s be together was me. So please, don’t let go of my hand."
and then…he falls down to the ground, painfully crying…
o(╥﹏╥)o
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Joon Soo drops by the Gong household and hauls a one-month food supply along as well. He also has bought clothes for Jin Joo’s child and she says he doesn’t even know if it’s a girl of boy. He says it’s okay and if the clothes don’t work out they can leave it for Hyun Suk’s children (T_T I already know what you’re doing Joon Soo sshi….)
His second ‘last-act’ is to make Ahjusshi happy by buying him a new dress shirt. Ahjusshi loves his new shirt and keeps says it must’ve been expensive. Joon Soo’s like ‘nah, it was just from a store on the street’. xD
Ahjussi then tells him,
"I don’t envy other people who have kids. I’m only able to be friends with Sung Man (Joon Soo’s father), because he left such a great son like you."
Joon Soo tries not to get emotional and quickly changes the subject asking if he learnt a lot from watching a romantic movie with In Joo.
Ahjussi says yes, he’s so lucky to have met people like In Joo and Jung Ja sshi in his ‘late’ years. Ahjussi insists going to sleep in his dress shirt and Joon Soo suggests he review what he learnt from the movie >.<
Joon Soo phones Hyun Suk after and tells him not to use his fists again.
"Sleep on time, and don’t wear your suit when you sleep. Cover yourself with a blanket, and sleep comfortably…"
And then he hangs up…after his ‘last’ words to Hyun Suk *CRY*
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Harabeoji assigns Do Hee the responsibility of one of the camping brands she suggested and says after more research, they’ll launch and market the ‘outdoor’ brand, which Joo Young will be in charge of (to the delight of Airhead mother).
Some other day, Nasajang-nim tells Harabeoji that if their new product is successful, then they’ll make enough money to pay back Creepy Lawyer (who invested in BY back then). Harabeoji asks if he knows something and he tells him he’s confirmed that creepy lawyer is not a person they can continue ‘walking with’ in the long run.
Harabeoji adds, “yeah, I’m not really satisfied with him as well.” ∪・ω・∪ hehe.
Nasajang-nim also says he hopes at the next meeting they can promote Do Hee to “general manager” …
He then tells Joo Young’s father he plans on promoting him as well but he rejects the offer. He knows if he gets promoted, his family will find a way to use him even more. (good father and man!)
Back at creepy lawyer’s place, Airhead mother is striking up a deal with him. She says although Joo Young won’t be the owner of BY, but she can be his ‘partner’ (since she’s over-looking the new brand now).
He asks why she thinks he’d give up Do Hee, who’s going to be the ‘owner’ of BY anyway.
She says Do Hee’s has an assertive personality and she won’t be willing to share managing power with her ‘husband’.
"Aren’t you two both assertive people?" she asks.
Creepy Laywer thinks about that for a moment… (obviously he’s thinking that it might be true that he won’t be able to ‘control’ Do Hee as he might have wanted to…)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Joon Soo makes omurice for Do Hee (he even made a ketchup HEART , oh gawd TT_TT). He tells her she can’t have any leftovers or else he won’t cook for her anymore. She happily agrees and asks if there’s more.
"I’ll eat it all up before Ahjussi and Teacher In Joo see it. If they tasted it, they’d force you to make it everyday and you’d be tired." (AWWW)
He smiles and says after she’s done eating, they’ll go out for a drive and that prompts Do Hee to immediately ask if her father said anything to him (she catches on quickly!) He quickly denies it and she says she just feels he’s acting strange all of sudden since they can’t go meet on the rooftop at the company now because of her father.
"Although I feel sorry for meeting each other behind sajang-nim’s back, but today I want to do this." (TT_TT)
Do Hee happily complies saying it’s better being happy than sad.
They go for their drive and Do Hee comments that Joon Soo’s finally got a hand at driving. She laughs saying before, he’d jump right out after stepping on the gas. He says it’s all thanks to her (*´▽`*).
She looks out the window and thinks of the time she saw Joon Soo cry while she was driving.
"Before I once saw you walking and crying, and I felt strange. But now because of me, you cry even more."
He doesn’t say anything, but reaches over to hold her hand and they smile at each other…
(YOU TWO….. TT_TT. This is so sweet and sorrowful at the same time…because we all know why Joon Soo’s like this (╯︵╰,) )
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Joon Soo keeps on saying Do Hee’s name and he says he just likes calling out her name (before he ‘thinks’ he won’t get a chance too TT_TT!!!!) and Do Hee just laughs.
"Do Hee ah. Although we can’t yell out to the world ‘this is my wife, this is my husband’, but being able to hold your hand on the streets like this, is already enough."
Do Hee stops, knowing something’s wrong (TT_TT) and worriedly asks again if her father said anything to him. He denies it again and she asks why…
He brings her into a hug and tells her,
"To me, you are already ‘home’ to me. Because me and you can rest, because me and you feel warmth, because me and you can sleep well. That’s why…even if you have to wait for me for a long time, don’t feel regretful. Even if you can’t see me, don’t look around for me, and don’t feel uneasy.”"You’re not…going some place far away are you?""You know I don’t have anywhere to go. I won’t go anywhere…I’ll always be by your side…"
And with his ‘promise’ he clasps her face in his hands, and gives her a kiss.
Do Hee’s probably not convinced, but she accepts his answer as a tear falls from her eye. Joon Soo, knowing the truth, can only think that this is the last time he’ll ever kiss his woman….
*BREAKSDOWN* *CLUTCHESHEART*
(╥_╥)(╥_╥)(╥_╥)…..
I just can’t…
Why must 3/4 of their kisses all tearful, sorrowful ones? TT_TT I pray for the day they can kiss each other passionately, but happily (っ˘̩╭╮˘̩)っ
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ex-minister Lee finally reads Joon Soo’s letters and in a voice-over we hear what Joon Soo has to say to him:
"I’ve never once forgotten that face of yours in court when you told me to speak the truth. And also, that face of yours when you said you’d never forgive me and my brother. How could I understand the heart of a father?I know I can’t make up for taking someone’s life just by sitting in jail, that’s why I write this letter to you.I don’t ask for forgiveness. If you can only hate me and my brother a bit less…if I could use my life to pay back your son’s, I will be willing to do that (TT_TT). If I can use my life, to make you hate my brother less, I am willing to bear it all…and walk on the same path your son did. So I hope you reply back. If I do so, let go of my brother.”
And that’s when Joon Soo…get’s the call…
Before meeting him, he makes one last call to Do Hee and tells her to go eat lunch. She tells him she’ll go right away, and he gives a weak smile and hangs up believing it will be the very last time to hear her voice… TT_TT
He arrives at the hospital and goes up on the rooftop…
Ex-minister Lee tells him, “I don’t think a person like you has the same value as my son. Even though it’s like that, I just want to verify if what you wrote in the letter was to gain pity, or was it out of sincerity.”
He points to the ledge and tells him to go there. Joon Soo stays still for a bit and ex-minister Lee says “right, you were hoping that I’d forgive you if you said you’d sacrifice your life, didn’t you? Your brother who waited for you outside jail…”
And with that, Joon Soo walks to the ledge…and even ex-minister Lee is surprised. He clasps his hands together and closes his eyes before asking,
"Concerning my son’s death…did your brother really not take part in any of it?"
Joon Soo starts to tear up, and he firmly tells him “No”.
"Did you really do it all by yourself?""Yes.""Then let’s go with what you said. Go in front of my son and beg for forgiveness."
Joon Soo closes his eyes and the tears stream down,
"At this moment, I knew that if I took one more step then I could forever keep that secret and leave this world. But at this moment, the promise I made to that woman saying I’d never die before her, was tearing my heart apart. I really…miss that woman…."
And with that…he takes his step. (;*△*;)
—-
You promised Do Hee you’d never die and leave her alone! You promised her you’d hold onto her hand! You promised her you’d always think of her! *CRY*
You…You!!!! Joon Soo yahhhhhhh 。・゚゚・(>д<)・゚゚・。
I know he won’t die (he’s the main character =.=), but there’s still that anxiety inside you!
The most likely possibility is that ex-minister Lee will stop him before he does…
and that’s the only possibility.
I think there were a lot of hints dropped throughout the story that hinted at Joon Soo willing to take the step to ‘sacrifice’ everything to protect his secret and family, even if it means death. But, will that solve the problem? NO, but I think Joon Soo’s act of ‘willing’ to sacrifice for his siblings will really touch ex-minister Lee and hopefully we will come up with a resolution in the following episodes…
BUT JOON SOOO… my heart….
I know your heart feels 10x times worse than mine, but still.
*wipes tear*
(and in the preview they made it ‘seem’ like it happened, but we all know it won’t ( ̄~ ̄;). it’s just a matter of wrapping up ex-minister lee’s pain and conflict with the Gong family. Don’t worry, I’m sure he’ll move on).
I really think im reading a novel version of this drama. And most of the time, novel is better..love.
