Tamra the Island: Episode 16 (Final)

So here we are. The finale. Tamra, you have been an excellent drama. While obviously the (cursed) cut hurt the ending, I still utterly adore you. And utter adoration is really all you can ask.
[As this is the final Tamra recap, I'd like to give nattacatta a big thank-you to taking on this project and seeing it through to the end. I hope you, like me, have enjoyed reading these recaps, which gave us a chance to re-live one of last year's underappreciated surprises. -javabeans]

TAMRA THE ISLAND EP 16

After the big lie to the King, William and Kyu are taken away. Kyu demands of him news of Beo Jin’s safety, close to tears. William reveals that Seo Rin has her (locked up).
Not for long. An intruder breaks into Beo Jin’s room, removing the bag off of her head. And lo and behold, it’s Yan. We knew you’d come through!

The Lady in Red is released from custody and met by the Man in Black. She offers a foreboding piece of wisdom; they should know how stupid it is to follow a crazy King, and they will pay the price.
He puts another dampener on her already dark mood: while he was away, Beo Jin was taken. She just smugly smiles, saying that that’s okay.

Tamra the Island: Episode 15

That damn Lady in Red! This woman grates on my nerves so much. I have long been wishing for her to stop smirking so infuriatingly smugly, but it seems I have another hour to wait, as she keeps putting all of our characters through twists and turns. The only good thing about Tamra ending is getting her to stop smirking.

TAMRA THE ISLAND EP15

Yan meets with the Lady in Red after witnessing some kind of rock burning process, presenting her with a piece of silver, saying that she failed to separate it from the lead. She smugly smirks and notes that she must take more care over the negligent workers. He asks what her back-up plan is if the silver isn’t ready in time. The East India Company won’t be trading with them anymore.
She thinks that they will, and instructs for William to be let in. William has been shown the contract that Yan threw away, and now believes that Yan was only with him for money. He concludes that he can no longer trust Kyu or Yan.
But Yan protests; it’s the Seo Rin group that he can’t trust. He asks how William came to work for the company, and William throws that question back at him. They refuse to tell each other. Yan finally decides that he will let the East India Company continue business with the Seo Rin group. But William must return to England with him. William will agree only if he helps him bring Beo Jin as well.
Yan scoffs at the fact that he is still obsessed with Beo Jin; as long as Kyu is here, she won’t leave. They then switch to speaking in English, apparently with the sole purpose of making me laugh. There is no trust in their relationship anymore.
As Beo Jin is working, she sees Yan and chases after him. He doesn’t look too happy to see her, but she just offers pleasantries, and asks why he is here. Is he here to take William?

Tamra the Island: Episode 14

And if we thought last episode was enough angst for us, it seems it isn’t. As Tamra speeds towards the (imposed) finale, there is a lot of ground (and emotions) to cover. Luckily, however, the necessary plot developments aren’t getting in the way of two of this show’s biggest strengths: character and relationships. The characters are still growing and changing, and this episode, some of our relationships begin their journey towards resolution.

TAMRA THE ISLAND EP 14

Picking up where we left off, Beo Jin is taking care of William, concerned over his health. William only utters one thing “Park Kyu”. He flashbacks to the King’s order for his death and tells her that Kyu did nothing to save him. Oh, no you didn’t boy! You would not be alive in the first place if it weren’t for him! Do you know how sad he was when he realised he couldn’t save you?
Beo Jin pieces it together and realises that Kyu must think he is dead.
The Lady in Red walks in, and Beo Jin is ordered outside. She tells William to take care of himself while she works. The Lady in Red smiles that knowing smirk and approaches William. He is grateful to her for letting him see Beo Jin again. But she shatters his words of thanks: “I wouldn’t kill a slave I payed so much money for.” He has been marked with her company’s symbol, and she is now his master.
She informs him that if he is a good servant boy who obeys his master, she will send him and Beo Jin on a boat back to England. A future with Beo Jin is basically the skeleton key to William’s mind, so he agrees to do anything.

On her way home, Beo Jin runs into Kyu. They exchange loaded looks.

Beo Jin: I told you not to come here anymore. Did you forget? I don’t want to see you ever again.
Kyu: William is dead. That day I came to tell you. There was nothing I could do. So I suffered. And so I’m sorry.
Beo Jin: Why did you do that? Why? Why didn’t you do anything even if you knew William would be killed? Was it because of me? Tell me, was it because of me?
