Ju Hwan tweeted: So proud

From: imjuhwanfan

“Really enjoyed shooting for the movie early this morning.Slept well then woke up and went outside to celebrate a little. There’s a chair with my name …next to the director’s and Ryu Seung-beom sunbaenim’s.ㅎㅎ This year there was a lot of joy and pain, happiness and sorrow, but I think I’m most proud of that chair.” -translation credits to my good friend K. ^^

전에 언급했던 촬영장에 생겨버린 나에 의자.. 뿌듯함
“The chair I received on set, that I mentioned before.. so proud” -translation credits to my good friend K. ^^

Yes.. Just like him.. I want to be able to look into my life beyond the sorrow, grief and heartache. I want to be able to see the good things in life that brings us joy, happiness and peace. It can be little things that we may take for granted.. like a toast prepared in the morning when you wake up, or a smile, or a chair with simply your name on it.. marking your place in that world.

Tamra the Island: Progress Update

By Doozy

I’m up to episode 13 and with each episode, my affection for this drama and its characters grows stronger and stronger. Tamra also has one of the cutest opening sequences, with the pop-up book theme and animated character cardboard cutouts.

Tamra the Island Opening Theme
(Special thanks to thduddbals for uploading the clip.)
You know, the more I think about it, the more I’m glad to have come across Tamra at just the right time. Otherwise, I would have missed out on this gem of a show.
Thoughts on its main characters
I still can’t believe I’m saying this, but Seo Woo is doing a winning job as Beo Jin. Although she does cry a tad too much for my liking, I find her utterly adorable as Beo Jin because she’s genuine, whether she’s with William or Park Kyu or anybody else, Beo Jin is always being herself, never putting up front to pretend to be someone else.

Welcome to the Island

By Doozy
When Tamra the Island aired in 2009, I had no interest in watching it primarily because there wasn’t anyone in its cast that really drew my attention. Seo Woo was a relatively newbie then. Im Joo Hwan was known to me as the dude who was Hyun Bin’s ineffective romantic rival in The Snow Queen; oh yeah, and also Kim Bum’s bro in a blink-and-you’d-miss-him scene in Boys Over Flower. And there was Hwang Chan Bin (Pierre Deporte), the blond albino boy whom I knew nothing about. Even after reading the many critical praises that Tamra gained, I still had no plans to check it out. Especially after being introduced to Seo Woo through the hot mess that was Cinderella’s Sister and leaving with feelings of indifferent and mild annoyance of the actress. So why am I marathoning it now?
In addition to a good script and solid performances by the drama’s cast, its OST is another aspect that can either enhance or diminish my enjoyment and emotional connection with that drama. For me, the pattern usually goes as such: 1) watch drama, 2) ooh, what lovely music you have there, 3) download OST, and 4) listen to it repeatedly. Tamra, however, has the distinction of turning this pattern upside-down because I fell in love with its instrumental theme before watching even a minute of the show.

First Look At Musical Drama "What’s Up"

We haven’t had much news about the musical-themed drama What’s Up, but the production has just released a four-minute trailer giving us our first real look at the show. And I have to say, I’m pretty impressed with the results; the characters seem well-developed and the cast looks strong.

The actor held various events for some 1,000 fans including a talk show and games regarding his works "Tamra, The Island," "Mr. Kimchee and Ms. Teriyaki's Wedding War" and "What's Up."

He also celebrated the one-year anniversary of his official Japanese fan club as well as performing the song "This is the Moment" from the "Jekyll & Hyde" musical and "You & I" by 2NE1 member Park Bom.

"I was happy to see my fans and make special memories even though it was a short time," Lim was quoted as saying, adding that he will work harder in the future.

Park Kyu - Im Joo Hwan

By OKOALA

Im Joo Hwan is Park Kyu: he of the perpetual whiff of snobbery, nary of speck on dirt to be found on his white robes, and general loftier-than-thou-demeanor. Here is a nobleman turned undercover investigator turned man in love turned man who has found his goal in life. Im Joo Hwan nails each and every subtle emotional turn required of this character.
I cannot stress enough how much I love both Im Joo Hwan’s performance as and the character of Park Kyu. [I first saw Im Joo Hwan as the second lead in Snow Queen. He was cute but not terribly memorable. Then he went and blew my mind in Tamra]. He captured the innate nobility of a privileged and intelligent young man, and conveyed the inner struggles of a noble reassessing his perceptions of the world and his place in it.

At the auditions for campus drama What’s Up

What’s Up — the upcoming campus drama set in a university musical department — has finished its open auditions with 10 new discoveries. These fresh faces will join the main cast, which features Im Joo-hwan (Tamra the Island), Im Joo-eun (Hon), Big Bang’s DaesungJeon Hye-jin (Smile), and model Lee Hyuk-soo.
The auditions for this drama have garnered a lot of interest for several reasons. For one, it’s one of a few university-set dramas in recent years, and as such it offers more opportunities than normal for newcomers to get small roles as supporting cast members or even as extras. Furthermore, this is a quasi-sequel to the 1999 campus series KAIST, which was the launching pad for many of this generation’s famous faces, including Chae Rim, Ji Sung, Lee Eun-joo, Lee Na-young, and Kim Min-jung. In addition, Song Ji-nah is one of the top writers of the industry with a number of top dramas to her name, such as Sandglass (also Story of a Man, Legend).
Hence the first round of the audition process attracted more than 10,000 hopefuls. Producers had originally planned to cast six out of the open auditions, but ended with ten. They range in age from 21 through 28.
Writer Song has had an active say in the casting from the start, and said, “Those who made it to the final round are all outstanding. The final decision wasn’t based on who did better or worse, but who fit the drama’s roles best.” She added that she would write every one of the 24 finalists into the scripts for Episodes 1 and 2, so they would at least appear once.

Im Ju hwan to open official Japanese website

Korean actor Lim Ju-hwan's official Japanese website will open on March 1, according to his agency Yedang Entertainment on Friday.

Im Joo-hwan’s Marriage War

If you’ll recall, there’s a short (two-episode) special drama starring Im Joo-hwan that is set to air soon, which will precede his full-length drama role in the upcoming What’s Up. It had previously been titled Hyunhaetan Marriage War, where “Hyunhaetan” refers to the strait between Korea and Japan and is a metaphor for the plot that has a Korean man (Im) marrying a Japanese woman (Rie). The drama is set to air over the weekend, but now has a new name: Marriage War of Doenjang-kun and Natto-chanDoenjang is the Korean word for fermented bean paste, while natto is a similar Japanese type of bean paste (they’re not exactly the same food, but the analogy is clear).

What’s Up completes first round of auditions

The first round of open auditions have been completed for writer Song Ji-nah‘s anticipated new campus drama What’s Up, and a list of the lucky applicants who passed to the next round has been revealed online on the audition webpage. The production still has a ways to go because there were 200 hopefuls who survived the first round; that number was pared down from an overwhelming number of overall aspirants — more than 10,000 showed up and participated.
The drama takes place in the musical department of a university and will begin filming in March. The main cast has already been selected; see initial group photos below.
They are, in order of the photo directly below: musical actor Jo Jung-seokHon‘s breakout star Im Joo-eun, Big Bang’s DaesungTamra the Island‘s Im Joo-hwan, former child actor Jeon Hye-jin, and model Lee Soo-hyuk.

Im Joo-hwan and Rie in MBC special drama

Tamra the Island‘s Im Joo-hwan has a drama series coming up (campus series What’s Up), but first he’ll be seen in an MBC special drama called Hyunhaetan Marriage War [현해탄 결혼전쟁]. He’ll star with Rie (full name Akiba Rie), a Misuda (Global Talk Show) panelist from Japan.
The story is about a typical Korean man and a Japanese woman who fall in love while working together on a Korea-Japan joint project, but face family opposition to their marriage. Hyunhaetan is the name of the strait between Japan and Korea; hence the title, which is a metaphor for the couple’s struggles.

Photoshoot for Arena in February 2010

Arena - February 2010

I think this ought to make a few people happy! Im Joo-hwan is in the February issue of men’s magazine Arena, and he’s looking pretty good.

One article calls the look masculine and even “macho,” but I think he looks more pretty to me. You know, while some fashion mag shoots have interesting concepts (like the “dangerous moment”) or cute ones (Smile’s holiday stars), to be honest most of them elude me. Im Joo-hwan’s falls into that category; he’s supposed to evoke “a fantasy feeling” as a showroom mannequin. O…kay. (I suppose that’s better than the pretty vampire holding saucepans?)

Ju Hwan joins What's up

The main cast now looks complete for What’s Up with the addition of Tamra the Island‘s aristocratic Park Kyu, aka actor Im Ju Hwan, which was previously rumored and is now official.
This means we may expect to see Im show off some singing skills as he takes on the role of a student in a university musical department: the rest of the main cast are Big Bang’sDaesungHon‘s possessed girl Im Joo-eun, former child actress Jeon Hye-jin, Kim Min-hee’s model boyfriend Lee Hyuk-soo in his acting debut, and musical actor Jo Jung-seok.
