Tamra the Island - a wonderful and lighthearted drama
Tamra, the Island or tempted again. The drama that I have been watching almost non stop for about 4 days now. It was wonderful and lighthearted drama and I really loved it. It was funny, sad, cute and beautiful. It really surprised me.
Tamra the Island: Episode 08
As William jumps over the fence, Yi Bang stares, shocked at this sudden turn of events. Beo Jin begs him not to take him, which he disregards, saying he will punish all three of them equally. Kyu steps in as he is about to approach them all: “I have something to tell you.”
He pulls out a medallion from inside his robes, representing his status as a secret royal inspector. Dun dun dun! Intense stares all round.
Beo Jin takes William and brings him back to the Town Elder’s guard, who returns him to his room.
Yi Bang apologises to Kyu for not recognising his rank earlier, but Kyu tells him that he suspected him as well, so they are even. Yi Bang is pleased with this turn of events, as is Kyu; now they both have a partner in crime… or crime prevention. Yi Bang asks about the foreigner but Kyu tells him to forget about it for now, as he will take William with him when he returns to the capital.
Yi Bang asks about Beo Jin, and Kyu, pre-emptively, starts explaining that they are not actually in a relationship; it was only to hide his identity. But he was actually asking whether she knows his identity, to Kyu’s embarrassment. Yeah, we all know you like her.

Tamra the Island: Episode 07
Man, I love Tamra the Island. The pacing continues to be tight, the acting continues to be strong, the characters continue to grow and the scenery continues to be beautiful. What more could one ask? Perhaps for some skinship? Well…

Mum’s crazy smile makes Kyu and Beo Jin nervous, and Kyu asks her what she is thinking. But she just addresses Beo Jin, asking her what’s going on; she has never set the breakfast table before, or snuck out at night. What was she doing? Was she seducing the exile?
Beo Jin adamantly denies this and runs away, followed by Kyu, leaving Mum standing there alone; she’ll be keeping an eye on them.
Yi Bang, meanwhile, is reporting the capture of the tax goods thieves, although he also reports the odd nature of the capture. The booty on the ship was far smaller than the stolen goods, and there were no goods of real value.
But his superior just disregards this, saying that once the thieves are handed over they’ll be investigated more thoroughly. After all, the thieves were suspected by the Royal Inspector (the Man in Black), is he doubting him? Evidently, he does have his doubts; the whereabouts of this alleged Inspector have been rather questionable lately.

Tamra the Island: Episode 06
Beware: steer clear of irate diver women if you are trying to run away.
This episode was fun and eventful, and I love the speedy pace so far. It stretches out the plot points to the right moment- it doesn’t become repetitive or, conversely, resolve issues too quickly without building the dramatic tension.

Kyu fights back (mighty well, if you ask me) against the Man in Black, pulling out a sword hidden in his sleeve. He manages to injure the man, who flees upon the arrival of government officials, minus the stolen token. Kyu picks up the token and goes to leave, assuming his usual unbothered façade.
Yi Bang arrives and Kyu’s presence at the Gibang immediately raises some flags. He tells Kyu to stay away, as a criminal is not permitted to visit these kinds of places freely. Kyu makes the point that while there is no law permitting exiles to visit a Gibang, there is no law against it either.
Yi Bang learns about the thief but they were unable to find him because, obviously, he escaped during this verbal sparring match. Kyu seems to be foremost on Yi Bang’s mind, however, as he asks why he would come to this room in particular. Kyu counters that there are many rooms, does it matter which one he drank in? Based on his facial expression on Kyu’s departure, clearly it does matter.
As it turns out, Kyu has fairly seriously injured the Man in Black, as he patches up his injury (which would look gross, if the make-up were more believable). Meanwhile, the night had a much better outcome for Kyu, who makes an imprint of the mystery token.

Tamra the Island: Episode 05
Hello everyone! I am nattacatta and I am super excited to be finishing the recaps forTamra the Island. I will be recapping the sixteen episode version as of right now (I come from the land down under, aka DVD region 4). This drama is oodles of fun so I hope you come along on this journey with me to Tamra where female divers rule the roost, British exiles speak Korean better than English and supposed sexual offenders investigate thievery.
The characters (and actors) in this show continue to deliver on the cuteness front. This was a fun episode and we see further development in Kyu’s character. What sets him apart from our regular Gu Jun Pyos is his personal journey, one of the major themes of the show. There is still mystery surrounding him, and Im Joo Hwan is playing the hell out of all of these elements.
TAMRA THE ISLAND EP 05
The episode picks up with William and Beo Jin admiring the clothes she made for him, while Kyu and Yan have a conversation about when they will leave Tamra. Yan notices that Kyu seems more anxious for them to leave than they are, to which he responds that he doesn’t want trouble for the townspeople. Methinks he is thinking about one townsperson in particular, although I don’t think that diminishes the growing loyalty and respect he is feeling towards some others, such as Beo Jin’s mother. Anyway, Yan then asks if Kyu will help them.
On their way home, Beo Jin thanks Kyu- it is obvious she feels awkward, but the thank you is sincere- however, he just brushes it off, telling her not to say useless things. Beo Jin yells thank you at him and runs off, unfortunately tripping over. She seems injured so he helps her up and offers his arm. Beo Jin is confused but takes his sleeve uncomfortably (and adorably). She thanks him again, and this time he accepts it.
Back at home, Kyu is writing a letter asking for money. He looks out the window to see Beo Jin catching a firefly and smiles. As she lets it go, it flies over the town, to be caught by a young girl. A mysterious man (complete with evil laughter) tells her to release it, seguing into a violent scene, where the distressed child looks on as the man is killed.

Tamra the Island: Episode 04
Park Kyu breaks the water container on suspicion of it being tampered with and walks away, leaving a very confused village guard. He tests a sample of the water, which proves to have something strange in it, and brings it to a pharmacist in town. The pharmacist isn’t sure if it’s a sleeping agent, but says he’ll find out from others. Satisfied with this answer, Kyu leaves.
William and Yan head to the beach, and find a raft. William’s unsure if it’s strong enough to take them all the way to Nagasaki, but Yan says they must try. However, just as they’re about to come out of hiding to steal it, two divers appear, and they must put their plan on hold for the time being.

Tamra the Island: Episode 03
Although Tamra the Island has finished airing, gallivanter and myself have volunteered to continue Javabeans’ efforts to offer recaps to Dramabeans readers. So, in the next weeks, we’re hoping to share detailed recaps, thoughts and opinions on this little treasure of a drama.
Now a side note for Tamra: Unfortunately the powers of MBC decided to cut the original 20 episodes to 16 episodes and by Episode 10 we start seeing the weird effects of crazy editing to keep the storylines flowing. What we’re also hoping to do is recap the original episodes once the DVD release comes out. It’ll be interesting to do a comparison between the editions and look at how much more of the characters/plot/themes we see in an extra 4 hours of viewing time- watch this space!
