Tamra the Island: Episode 13
Hello angst. From the opening argument to the final tear, there is a lot of tension (and plot development) in episode 13. After our lovely reprieve in the previous episode, things for our characters are getting kind of awful. But Tamra does angst so amazingly well that I still love this episode.

We kick off with the Crown Prince complimenting the Lady in Red’s humanitarian actions. She basically offloads a bucket of bull about having a responsibility to help the poor. The Prince is suitably impressed with her and not against her proposal of opening the ports to foreign trade, all to increase the wealth of the people, of course.
Kyu chimes in at this moment, offering his opinion that this is not the best course of action. Immense preparation is necessary so that the foreign trade doesn’t disable the local economy. While this persuades the Prince, the Lady in Red and the Prime Minister (her ally) are unimpressed.

Hee. Hee hee hee hee. HOMG laughing my head off forever at the cuteness here. In the army all enlisted men are equal, but clearly some are still prettier than others. The current crop of enlisted Korean actors include some of my favorites like Kim Jae Wook and Im Joo Hwan, so it was to my absolute delight to see the two of them posing for a picture together. A closer look reveals the other two pretty boys sandwiched between them to be none other than Rain and Park Hyo Shin. That's quite a collection of star power on one couch, even if they are all wearing the same army fatigues and sporting the same buzz cut. Notice all four of them have intertwined arms? Yeah, they clearly want to kill us with the cute. All four of these guys are in the Army Entertainment Unit, which most entertainers enlist in since its their professional bread and butter plus relatively lighter on the physical work load. I have no problems with that, though I do get annoyed when I see the government using them for really obvious months to over a year left in their service, so we need to savor this glimpse of them since it's relatively few and far between. I feel like Im Joo Hwan hasn't been in the army that long due to watching What's up? , before remembering that he filmed it before he enlisted and the drama broadcast after he left for military service. Both Kim Jae Wook and Rain had lackluster dramas under their belts right before their enlistment, so hope all three pick great projects whatever it is when they return. Looking good, fellas!

Tamra the Island: Episode 12
Smiling Kyu has returned bright eyed and bushy tailed this episode, so get ready to swoon. I’ll apologise now for my overuse of the word ‘adorable’ in this recap, but I think that basically sums it up. Except for the two murder investigations, of course. And the corpse. And the government corruption. But who pays any attention to those things when you have Beo Jin and Park Kyu?
TAMRA THE ISLAND EP 12
As Kyu goes to investigate the Prime Minister’s murder he is stopped by an aggressive man, a government official and his new superior. Despite his best efforts to help investigate the case, he is told there is no evidence on the corpse, which has been moved and is ordered instead to investigate the hanging of a plain citizen.
The Lady in Red gives a gift of gratitude to this same government official, who helped get rid of the signs of poisoning on the corpse. He assures her that no one will find out; all of the investigations must be run by him.
Kyu visits the (commoner) hanged man’s corpse, and examines it. He comes to conclusion that the man did not commit suicide; this was murder. The guard assures him that it was suicide, but of course, Kyu in not convinced. He orders to man to investigate whether he had any family.

Tamra the Island: Episode 11
This episode the dynamics change and bring some new possibilities: a couple of murders throw a spanner in the works, a certain foreigner’s entire destiny changes, a young girl is made over (to the delight of her love interest) and a meddling mother wishes she’d had the sex talk sooner.

William presents Beo Jin with a pot on which he drew her face. Both of them are so happy to be together again. He places his hand on her face, telling her he always knew she would come. Even though Kyu said he wouldn’t see her again. He asks her to promise that they will be together forever, which she agrees to, although there is some kind of hesitation in her eyes.
She walks into Kyu’s room with medicine to treat him. Kyu notes that despite his harsh words, she followed William. She simple wonders if he is sorry for saying those things. She’s okay, so he shouldn’t feel too guilty. He instructs her to leave his room but she starts to get out the medicine, despite his protests.

Tamra the Island: Episode 10
William and Kyu have now arrived in the capital, which means that William will be executed. We kick off with him, head in a guillotine, pleading with the guards to let him go. Kyu approaches, but despite William’s begging, he just smiles and condemns him to death. The blade falls…
Only to be a dream. William wakes up as guards comes into his room and take him outside. As all the high ranking officials aren’t there, they basically make him an attraction for villagers, forcing him to speak Korean, whilst demanding payment from those who have come. They start throwing food at him and surrounding him, as the guards count their earnings.
But the party is broken up by an uninvited visitor. Kyu, who is seething. Everyone rushes to bow and flee, as he locks eyes with William, and takes him to clean up. There is a lot of interesting potential in this relationship, and I like how they are exploring it.

Tamra the Island: Episode 09
What a great episode. We move from climax to climax, with few breaks in between. People fight, people die, leadership changes, parties are had, boats sail away and there is a whole lot of crying along the way. So strap in.

Episode 9 kicks off with Beo Jin and William’s relief at Kyu finding them. She is in a fit of tears as he asks if she is all right. She cries that she knew he would come and he reassures her that everything is all right. He hugs her, watched by William.
Yan is impatiently waiting for William as our three heroes walk through the camp, trying to escape. Beo Jin is distracted by the tax goods from her village, saying that they must report it. The divers have worked ridiculously hard to gather these goods. She can never keep her eye on the prize this girl. More pressing at this moment, one would think, would be getting out alive. But it does show her love for their village.
As they get out of the fort, Kyu instructs them to run away through the forest. Although Beo Jin is reluctant to leave him behind, they escape unscathed.
